INVESTOR PROTECTION, REGULATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE CAPITAL MARKET: CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES
This discussion is based on the fact of increasing investor complaints and the seemingly passive and reactive response of SEC to the complaints. Are the complaints the result of the inability of lack of capacity of SEC to regulate the market? Is SEC failing in its investor protection mandate? Or is SEC losing its relevance as an effective securities regulator? What should SEC require to make it an effective and efficient regulator? Is SEC facing a leadership crisis? This and many more questions would be posted and answered. The Panelists will also briefly touch on the history, the evolution and policy direction of the SEC and the capital market to the present.
